MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. intends to visit quake-hit areas in Mindanao, Malacañang said on Tuesday. “I can't give you the exact date, but he has plans,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said in Filipino in a press briefing. “It’s in the schedule.” The chief executive earlier in the day led a situation briefing in the Palace with key government officials following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit many parts of Mindanao. He was given updates from frontline agencies including Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and Office of Civil Defense (OCD). Marcos likewise spoke with local chief executives from Mindanao. Other Cabinet officials, upon the directive of the president, are now in Mindanao for an intensified whole-of-government response, providing updates on ongoing response efforts, damage assessments, and the immediate needs of affected communities. The number of deaths from the temblor, so far, is at 41 according to the OCD.
