THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) is converting confiscated goods into relief assistance for victims of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck General Santos and for all victims of calamities nationwide. Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno on Tuesday said that transforming confiscated goods into much-needed assistance for communities across the country will ensure forfeited assets are put to productive use. Nepomuceno said the BOC will facilitate the prompt and lawful donation of seized goods to government agencies and partner institutions for distribution to beneficiaries nationwide. The BOC said the initiative aims to reach communities that urgently require assistance while maintaining strict compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. “Our goal is to ensure that forfeited goods benefit the Filipino people. Instead of allowing these items to go to waste or remain in storage, we will continue working with various government agencies and partner institutions to distribute them properly, in accordance with the law,” he said. The initiative backs President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to maximize government resources and ensure public assets deliver tangible benefits to Filipino communities. Also, the Customs chief said the program is part of a broader strategy to strengthen social welfare initiatives while promoting accountability in the management of forfeited goods.
