"Mexico's federal and Jalisco state health authorities have established an epidemiological protocol to detect and contain suspected Ebola cases during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, particularly for visitors arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other African nations. “We have reinforced health measures in recent weeks with the objective of identifying any pathology that could be present in Jalisco and that could have an epidemiological impact during the 2026 FIFA World Cup”, said Hector Raul Perez Gomez, Health Secretary of Jalisco Trained personnel will conduct health screenings for arriving travelers, asking them “whether they have experienced symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, or any hemorrhagic manifestation.” Anyone identified as a potential Ebola case will be immediately isolated “and appropriate decisions will be taken based on the findings.” If a suspected case is detected in Jalisco, the individual will be transferred to Mexico City under special protocols coordinated by Mexico's Defense Ministry and treated at a specialised isolation facility at the National Rehabilitation Institute. Guadalajara, one of the tournament's host cities, is scheduled to host a match between Colombia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 23. As a precaution, health officials have heightened epidemiological surveillance at the international airports in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Puerto Vallarta. The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11, with matches taking place across the United States, Canada and Mexico in the tournament's new 48-team format."
