"Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal thanked the Omani authorities for rescuing 24 Indian crew members from a sanctioned oil tanker hit by a US missile off the coast of the Gulf state on Monday. "The ship MT Marivex was disabled off the coast of Oman. We have learned that it is a Palau-flagged vessel. We also understand there was some exchange of communication between the ship and the US Navy before the incident," Jaiswal explained at a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday. Expressing gratitude to the Omani government for its 'excellent support' in rescuing the crew and ensuring their safety, the spokesperson confirmed, "There were 24 crew members on board the ship, all of them being Indian nationals. They all have been rescued, and they are safe. Our embassy, for this purpose, for the evacuation and rescue purpose, they contacted the Omani authorities who swung into action." The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the vessel Marivex violated its naval blockade of Iranian ports. After the crew ignored US directives, a 'precision munition' was fired at the ship. The US military has imposed a blockade on Iran's ports after Tehran effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint that carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil and gas supplies. Jaiswal also addressed the disputed territories of Jammu and Kashmir, the programme of the Venezuelan Delcy Rodriquez president and ties with Afghanistan."
