Kookmin University professor analyzes AI's impact on Korean industries in 2 journal studies

Oh Eun-young, associate professor of economics at Kookmin University’s KMU International Business School, has recently published two papers in internationally renowned journals examining the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) on Korean industries and the labor market. The university said Wednesday that Oh’s research is noteworthy for analyzing both the productivity gains associated with AI adoption in industry and public perceptions of job displacement amid growing attention to generative AI as a new growth engine for Korea. It added that her studies empirically demonstrate that the impact of generative AI is not uniform across industries and occupations, but differs according to industrial structures and occupational characteristics. One of the two papers was published in February under the title, “Generative AI and Uneven Productivity Gains: The Political Economy of Sectoral Asymmetry in South Korea,” in the Journal of Information Technology & Politics.
