"Thousands of people gathered in Barcelona on Wednesday to witness the historic blessing of Sagrada Familia's tallest tower, the Tower of Jesus Christ, as Pope Leo XIV headed the mass and inauguration. Footage shows crowds outside the Gaudi-designed church, with Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia also in attendance. The historic Sagrada Familia can also be seen illuminated and surrounded by fireworks in celebration of the blessing. Standing 172.5 metres high and crowned with a five-storey ceramic cross, the Tower of Jesus Christ is the central and tallest of the basilica's 18 planned towers, making it the crowning glory of the Sagrada Familia. With this architectural milestone, the Sagrada Familia officially secures its title as the tallest church in the world. The event coincides with the 100th anniversary of the passing of Antoni Gaudí, the basilica's visionary architect, who died in 1926. "
