MANILA, Philippines — China banned Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and his immediate family from entering Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao for "sabotaging" the relations between Beijing and Manila. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced the sanction against Teodoro and his relatives Thursday evening. "Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. repeatedly made irresponsible remarks on China, which undermines China’s legitimate interests and sabotages China-Philippines relations," the MOFA's spokesman said. "To uphold China’s sovereignty, security and development interests, China has decided to prohibit Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and his spouse and child from entering the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao," the MOFA said. It also said that organizations and individuals in China are not allowed to "engage in any transaction, cooperation or other activities with him and his spouse and child."
