Security forces killed 27 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations in the Miran Shah area of North Waziristan over the past 72 hours, the military’s media wing said on Sunday. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces engaged multiple terrorist hideouts during the operations, triggering intense exchanges of fire. The military said the slain militants belonged to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which it referred to as “Fitna-al-Khwarij”, and alleged that the group was backed by India. The ISPR said a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the terrorists, who were involved in terrorist activities and targeted killings of civilians. The military said the operation had avenged the killing of prominent local figure Malik Saifullah Dawar, who was recently shot dead in Miranshah, adding that those responsible had been brought to justice. The ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, reaffirming that counterterrorism efforts under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam initiative would continue until militancy is eradicated from the country.
