'Violent failure of neoliberalism' - Melenchon slams Macron's 'social ruin', Trump's 'supremacism', 'erasure' of free markets

"Leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Melenchon, slammed French President Emmanuel Macron's economic and social policies, pitching himself as an 'alternative' during his presidential campaign launch in Saint-Denis on Sunday. "France is a field of social ruins since Macron. Macronism will remain social regression and misery for the majority through the accumulation of wealth in a few hands," he declared. He urged a halt to new free trade deals, including the EU–Mercosur Partnership Agreement and the free trade deal with India. "We refuse the war economy. Stop! The European treaties are obsolete," he added. He vowed to block access to posted worker status and agricultural imports in France produced from banned products. He said that amid a changing geopolitical landscape and end of a world order, France needed someone with "clear principles, credible action plans, and a consistent method," instead of 'false answers.' "For in this chaos, a new political project is emerging in the wars of the Middle East and Trumpism. This is what should be called supremacism," he warned. "In Europe, this project is progressing from all because the failure of neoliberalism is violent there," he continued. "In France, these damages are akin to a war. High cost of living and mass unemployment have become permanent." The rally comes as political parties gear up for the 2027 presidential election, which is scheduled for April 2027."
