Dubai crash: 7 dead, 9 injured after minibus hits stopped truck on Emirates Road

Dubai: Dubai Police reported that seven people have died and nine others were injured in a collision between a minibus and a truck on Emirates Road. The truck had stopped in the middle of the road after a previous accident, leading the minibus to crash into it from behind. Authorities warned drivers about the dangers of stopping in the roadway and urged them to follow proper safety procedures to protect all road users. The Dubai Police General Command warned of the dangers of stopping in the middle of the road due to vehicle malfunction, running out of fuel, or tire failure. Drivers must ensure their vehicles are safe before setting out. The penalty for stopping in the middle of the road is a fine of Dh1,000 and six traffic points. Article 98, related to obstructing traffic, carries a fine of Dh500. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic, said that stopping in the middle of the road is one of the most dangerous violations, often resulting in serious accidents, fatalities, and severe injuries. He stressed the need to contact the police if a vehicle breaks down and cannot be moved, so appropriate measures can be taken, including securing the vehicle and protecting road users. The incident occurred when a truck stopped in the middle of the road after being involved in an earlier accident, and a minibus subsequently collided with it. The Command and Control Center at the General Directorate of Operations received a report of the crash. Initial findings indicated that the accident was caused by the truck stopping in the roadway following a prior collision and the bus driver’s lack of attention, leading to a rear-end crash. The accident resulted in seven deaths and nine injuries of varying severity, including five serious and four moderate cases. The injured were transferred to hospital for treatment. Experts from the Traffic Accidents Department and patrols from Al Khawaneej Police Station were dispatched to the scene to conduct inspections and collect evidence. Traffic patrols also managed traffic flow, secured the site, and facilitated the arrival of rescue teams. Damaged vehicles were removed to restore normal traffic movement. Brigadier bin Suwaidan added that if a vehicle experiences a technical fault or is involved in an accident and cannot be moved, drivers must take preventive measures. These include using hazard lights, ensuring their own safety and that of passengers, placing a warning triangle at a safe distance behind the vehicle, leaving the vehicle, moving to a safe location off the road, and contacting the police.
