Rome's traffic-free Sundays to battle smog

Traffic restrictions on five Sundays to combat air pollution in Rome. Rome is to ban motorists from driving within the fascia verde (green belt) on five Sundays between November 2025 and March 2026. The next date on which the restrictions will be in effect is 29 March 2026. On these "eco-friendly" Sundays, traffic will be banned from 07.30 to 12.30 and from 16.30 to 20.30. Known as domeniche ecologiche (Ecological Sundays), the traffic restrictions are designed to curb air pollution in the capital. There are a number of exemptions to the car-free Sundays including less-polluting vehicles, electric cars and those travelling for essential medical treatment.
