Over 1,000 prisoners released to ease crowding, facilitate reintegration

MANILA, Philippines—The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has released a total of 1,239 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), most of whom have finished serving their prison term, from national penitentiaries in the past month.  According to the latest data issued by BuCor on Saturday, 501 PDLs were released as a result of the expiration of their maximum prison sentence, while 396 others had expiring prison terms by virtue of Department Order No. 652 of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
