"Myanmar's troops took part in the grand 81st Anniversary of Armed Forces Day parade in Naypyidaw on Friday as the country gears up for the upcoming presidential elections. Footage shows military officials marching in synch as well as Defence Chief Min Aung Hlaing taking part in the celebration. Military vehicles and aircraft can also be seen showcased at the event. Myanmar’s junta earlier signalled changes in the military’s command, potentially clearing the way for Hlaing to take on the role of president. Pro-Military lawmakers who were elected earlier this year are set to start the process for presidential selection. For Hlaing to become president under the constitution, he would have to step down from the post of Defence Chief. Hlaing has ruled Myanmar since 2021 after ousting the government of Aung San Suu Kyi, detaining the Nobel Peace Prize laureate by dissolving her party, which triggered civil unrest in the country."
