"Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un oversaw a test of a high-thrust solid-fuel engine for a long-range ballistic missile. Images released by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Sunday show flames coming out of the latest engine, which is made from composite carbon fibre. Using solid materials for fuel, it can achieve a higher thrust of 2,500 kilonewtons. "The test of great significance in putting the country's strategic military muscle on the highest level fully conforms with the national strategy and the military demand for modernising the strategic forces," Kim remarked as cited by the KCNA. It is the first officially confirmed high-thrust solid-fuel engine test since last September, when the engine produced a maximum thrust of 1,971 kilonewtons. The new test achieved 2,500 kilonewtons, enhancing ICBM capabilities. On the same day, the DPRK leader reportedly also observed the combat performance of the new-type MBT's interceptor system against anti-tank and attended training of special operations sub-units."
