"Farmers across five regions of Turkmenistan began sowing cotton, often referred to as 'white gold', on March 25, following an order issued by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Footage captured on Thursday shows farmers and locals gathering in the fields to mark the start of the season, with elders symbolically sowing the first seeds before tractors move in, cutting neat rows across the land. Some participants were seen offering prayers for a successful harvest. Atamyrat Orazmyradov, one of those present, said modern farming techniques have made the work more efficient. "We pass this baton to the young machine operators with confidence – this cotton will become not just a textile or an export commodity, but a source of prosperity for every family and the pride of the whole of Turkmenistan. May the harvest be bountiful, and the labour of our farmers blessed!" he said. The launch of the sowing season was marked by celebrations, with folk performances, traditional dances and field-side fairs where local craftspeople sold handmade goods. Cotton remains a cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s agro-industrial sector, supplying domestic textile production while generating export revenue. The fibre is also marketed internationally for its perceived environmental qualities."
