'Enemies now fighting for their own existence' - Netanyahu orders further expansion of 'security zones' in neighbouring territories

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared 'tremendous accomplishments' in Israel's military operations against Iran and announced further expansion of security buffer zones inside Lebanon, Syria and Palestine on Sunday. "We are in a multi-arena campaign. We are striking with tremendous force against Iran and its proxies. We are achieving tremendous accomplishments, accomplishments that are creating visible cracks in the terror regime in Tehran," Netanyahu declared. "In over half the territory of the Strip and in Lebanon. I have now directed to further expand the existing security zone to finally thwart the threat of invasion and to push the firing of anti-tank missiles away from our borders," he added. The Prime Minister claimed that Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas have been fundamentally diminished to entities now fighting for their own survival. "These are no longer terror armies that threaten our existence. These are familiar enemies fighting for their own existence. Instead of them surprising us, we are surprising them. We are the active side, we are the attacking side, we are the initiating side," he stressed. The announcement followed a high-level military assessment at Israel's Northern Command. The move to expand 'security buffer zones' has drawn condemnation from the UN, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other international entities, which warned against expanding military zones. Tensions escalated in the Middle East after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran on February 28, amid diplomatic efforts over Tehran's nuclear and missile programmes. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and US military assets across the region, with explosions reported in several Gulf countries. The conflict has since expanded into Lebanon, where Hezbollah has launched attacks on Israel, describing them as retaliation for the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei - who has since been succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei."
