'We will be firm on this path' - Activists show solidarity with Palestine, Iran at Sao Paulo rally amid Middle East conflict

"Oswaldo Cruz Square in Sao Paulo was the centre of a political and cultural event in support of Palestine and against the conflict in the Middle East. Various movements and civil organisations held a march along Avenida Paulista as part of 'Palestinian Land Day'. Footage filmed on Sunday shows members of trade unions and social movements participating in an event known in Arabic as Yom al-Ard. This day commemorates the events of March 30, 1976, when Palestinian residents of Galilee staged a strike to protest against the government's expropriation of their land. Activists denounced the genocide in Gaza, protested against ethnic cleansing in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and criticised the alliance between the United States and Israel, accusing both countries of carrying out a 'dirty policy'. "It was not Iran that started this war; people say it was Iran. No! Israel went there and bombed Iran, both it and the United States," said Mohamed, a protester. The initiative aimed to connect the Palestinian cause with other resistances in the Middle East amid imperialist escalation and to expand international solidarity. "Today we are here to be the voice of the children who were killed by the cowardly attacks of the United States and Israel; today we are here to show our resistance. We will be the voice of these children who were killed," stated protester Zahara, who questioned the actions of US President Donald Trump. "Trump says he wants to bring freedom to Iranian children and women. What freedom? Does killing them bring freedom? Does oppressing them bring freedom? We know the reality and we are here with this many [people]. We are here to show our resistance, our voice and our strength," she added. The event also addressed other international incidents, such as the assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and the kidnapping of Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro. "Before the assassination of Ali Khamenei, Trump kidnapped Nicolas Maduro in Latin America; he kidnapped a president of a sovereign country, so they act as if they own the world," said protester Isadora, who criticised the stance of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. "I believe the Brazilian government should show solidarity and support; Lula ignored the situation even though he is a member of BRICS, which is being directly attacked, and I believe the stance of the Brazilian government should be in defence of Iran because the Brazilian population supports Iran," she asserted. The day in Sao Paulo combined cultural activities to honour the Palestinian struggle and promote international solidarity in defence of its rights."
