Collapse horror - Church service turns deadly as building gives way in Accra, killing three and trapping dozens

"At least three people were killed, and dozens were injured after a three-storey building used as a temporary church collapsed within a school compound in Accra on Sunday. Footage shows emergency teams, including army, police and fire personnel, using excavators and sniffer dogs to search for those still missing, as security forces cordoned off the area. “Around 4:58 pm, I had a call from one of the residents that one of the experimental schools had collapsed, so I had to rush in," said Alex Twumasi Mensah, a local assemblyman. "People were trapped inside because a church service was ongoing." "There are about 32 church members trapped inside. Four had already been rescued before I got here," he added. "I saw an extra five also being rescued. I saw two of them dead. May their souls rest in peace." Ghana’s interior minister later confirmed that three people, a man and two women, had died, while at least 20 others were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The collapse followed heavy rainstorms, prompting anger among residents and renewed calls for accountability over the safety of unfinished public buildings. Authorities have temporarily closed the school and launched an investigation into the cause of the incident."
