Jeddah talks - Saudi Crown Prince and King Abdullah discuss regional developments as Iran war enters fifth week

"Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman received Jordan's King Abdullah II in Jeddah on Monday, where they discussed the impact of the Iran war on both regional and global security. Footage shows the Jordanian king's plane arriving at the airport, where he was welcomed by the Saudi crown prince. According to Jordanian media, both sides reiterated their condemnation of continued Iranian attacks on Arab countries. King Abdullah II also warned against the exploitation of regional tensions as a pretext to restrict freedom of worship at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The two leaders further discussed the broader implications of regional developments, with King Abdullah II stressing the need to halt Israeli attacks on Lebanon and support efforts to preserve its security, stability and sovereignty. Tensions have escalated across the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, amid diplomatic talks aimed at 'curbing Iran's nuclear and missile programmes'. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes on Israeli and US assets in the region, accompanied by reports of explosions in several Gulf countries. Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei named as his successor. The conflict spilt over into Lebanon as Hezbollah intervened 'in revenge' for the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader."
