A woman has pleaded guilty in the Dunedin High Court to disposing of evidence linked to a murder investigation involving her husband. Gurpreet Kaur, 29, entered the plea before Justice Cameron Mander on Tuesday, with the court formally recording her conviction. The charge followed the murder of Gurjeet Singh at a Pine Hill Rd address on 28 January 28, 2024. Photo / Ben Tomsett According to the summary of facts, Kaur was approached by police at her workplace on February 5, and asked to provide a statement about her activities around the time of the killing. Before leaving with officers, she asked to use the bathroom, taking her handbag with her. She remained inside a toilet cubicle for several minutes and was heard flushing twice. When she emerged, she appeared distressed, sweating and shaky. Police later searched the cubicle and found a bag containing a pair of dark lace-up shoes in a rubbish bin. Kaur initially denied any knowledge of the shoes. Later, she told police they belonged to her husband, who had given them to her because he did not like them. She admitted she disposed of the shoes because she was scared when approached by police. Forensic testing later found glass fragments embedded in the soles, consistent with glass from a broken window at the murder scene. Justice Mander ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report and remanded her on bail. She is due to be sentenced on July 7. Rajinder is to be sentenced on April 1.
