More Jamaicans are living in safe and habitable homes, with homeownership also on the rise, according to the latest Survey of Living Conditions. The island’s Housing Quality Index (HQI), which measures the physical condition, livability, and sustainability of dwellings, rose to 80.5 per cent in the 2023 survey conducted by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ). The HQI was estimated at 75 per cent in the previous survey in 2017.
