MANILA, Philippines — The driver in the viral gas-and-run incident over the weekend has surrendered, police said Tuesday. Alias "Jefferson," 27, of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, appeared at the La Loma Police Station accompanied by family members, Quezon City Police Director Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said. The surrender came after a thorough police investigation that included a review of CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage and coordination with concerned agencies that enabled the identification of the vehicle and the person involved in the incident which happened few days ago at a gas station along Balintawak, EDSA. Reports said that Jefferson bought a full tank worth of diesel at P5, 196 but sped off after. Investigation revealed that after learning that the incident had gone viral, the suspect stopped traveling and avoided social media, unaware that authorities were searching for him. He remained in his residence in Bulacan, where the vehicle involved iwas also kept. Police said it would pursue the filing of estafa before the City Prosecutor’s Office against the suspect who apologized to the gas station management, expressing remorse but blaming high gasoline costs and low earnings for his offense.
