Palace declares half-day WFH for govt workers on Holy Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday announced a half-day work-from-home (WFH) setup for government employees on Wednesday in line with the country’s observation of Holy Week. The Palace issued Memorandum Circular 116, “to allow them to travel to and from the different in the country” for the long break. Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro noted that remote work would be from 8 a.m. until noon. “However, agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations under usual working arrangements and render the necessary services,” part of the circular read. The adoption of WFH arrangements and suspension of work for private companies and offices, meanwhile, are left to the discretion of their respective employers, the circular further stated. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are regular holidays while Black Saturday is a special non-working day, the Palace said.
