Makati announces road closures, rerouting on Good Friday

MANILA, Philippines — The Makati Public Safety Department will implement road closures and traffic rerouting on Good Friday. ‎The city said traffic adjustments in the villages of Poblacion and Guadalupe Viejofor would be in effect from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. ‎A portion of J.P. Rizal Avenue, from Pasong Tirad Street to Makati Avenue, will be temporarily converted into a two-way road from April 2 to April 5, covering Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Black Saturday and Easter Sunday. ‎Normal traffic flow will resume at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, April 6, according to the city advisory. ‎The city also said several streets in village Poblacion were closed last week due to the construction of kubols or kalbaryos by various groups recognized by St. Peter and Paul Parish Church. ‎The roads listed for closure are: ‎Gen. Burgos Street ‎For light vehicles, cars and SUVs coming from the Guadalupe area or westbound and heading toward Makati City Hall, Circuit and Delpan Street in Manila, motorists will be rerouted through Estrella Street, Rockwell Drive, Kalayaan Avenue, Makati Avenue, Jupiter Street or Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, then N. Garcia Street before rejoining J.P. Rizal Avenue. ‎Public utility jeepneys, public utility vehicles, and large or small trucks with six wheels and up coming from the same area will be redirected through the West Cloverleaf, EDSA southbound, Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, Paseo de Roxas Avenue, Makati Avenue and N. Garcia Street before returning to J.P. Rizal Avenue. ‎Motorists coming from Delpan Street eastbound may either pass through the temporarily converted two-way section of J.P. Rizal Avenue toward the Makati City Hall area, then proceed to N. Garcia Street and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, or take Pasong Tirad Street, Kalayaan Avenue, N. Garcia Street and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue toward their destinations. ‎The Makati Public Safety Department advised motorists to plan their trips ahead, expect delays in affected areas, and take alternate routes to avoid congestion.
