"Iraq head coach Graham Arnold said qualifying for a World Cup "can change a nation" on Monday, ahead of a decisive play-off against Bolivia that could see the team return to the tournament for the first time since 1986. Footage shows the Iraqi team during their final training session at the Tecnologico de Monterrey university campus, as players worked through tactical preparations and spoke to the media ahead of the play-off encounter. "It can change the perception of the nation of Iraq, but it can also, you know, change their football, the professionalism of their football. And they are a football country, football mad, in terms of, you know, they're obsessed with football. It's their main sport. And as I said, it's been an honour and a privilege," Arnold said during a press conference at BBVA Stadium in Monterrey. "I'll be honest, it's the players I love every minute working with the players. They've been fantastic. And as I said, I've been like a father figure for them this week because I've been through that type of experience before, these types of playoffs, and it's all about keeping them relaxed, happy, and getting them ready," he added. Iraq midfielder Aimar Sher also acknowledged the challenge ahead, describing Bolivia as a "very strong" side. "We know when we're at our best how good we can be. And it's amazing to see that it's a lot of players here who are in their top form. So it would be a tough game, of course, but we have a lot of confidence in our team," he added. The play-off between Iraq and Bolivia will be played on Tuesday at BBVA Stadium in Monterrey. The winner will progress to Group I at the World Cup, where France, Senegal and Norway await. Iraq have appeared at the World Cup only once, in 1986 in Mexico, while Bolivia have not qualified since 1994."
