Families reunited! - Eleven children evacuated from Gaza as premature babies return home

"Eleven children evacuated as premature babies from Gaza to Egypt during the Israel-Hamas war returned home, arriving at Nasser Hospital in the Strip on Monday. 11 children have arrived at Nasser Hospital, Gaza Strip, on Monday after being evacuated as premature infants from Al Shifa Hospital to Egypt during the war, in a move marked by emotional reunions with their families.   Footage shows emotional reunions with their families, after the convoy reached the medical complex in Khan Younis, with families embracing and kissing their children.   One mother, Suraa Ghabn, said she had feared the worst. “We thought he had been killed. Four months later, we were informed by the UAE hospitals that he was still alive and that he was in Egypt. Thank God for bringing us back together, and being overjoyed by his return. I thank everyone who helped return my son,” she shared. Another mother, Rawan Al Wadiya, described following her daughter’s development from afar through videos and photos. ‘I recognised her through pictures. She does not know me yet,” she explained.   “It is truly an indescribable feeling. I feel as though I could fly from happiness. This is the first time I have felt joy in two and a half years. After a long-standing patience, the joy has returned," added a third.   Dr Ibrahim Muhaisen, who accompanied the youngsters during their treatment in Egypt, confirmed that 11 children had returned, but that eight others had tragically passed away.   Ahmad Al Farra, head of the paediatrics department at Nasser Hospital, revealed: “those children had originally been in incubators at Al-Shifa Hospital. During the siege of the occupied forces to the neonatal unit, they were forcibly transferred to the surgery department after power was cut off from the maternity hospital’s incubator ward.”   “Following coordination with UNICEF and pertinent international organisations, approval was granted to transfer them out of Gaza to Egypt.” Israel and Hamas agreed the first phase of a deal last October, including a ceasefire, exchange and prisoners and hostages and aid supplies into the Gaza Strip. The US has said work on subsequent phases, including rebuilding and post-war governance, is underway.   "
