"War Secretary Pete Hegseth insisted talks with Iran were 'very real' when asked about Tehran's repeated denials, as he gave his latest Pentagon presser on Tuesday. "So, on the talks, I can tell you, having been with Steve and Jared and the Vice President and Marco and many others yesterday, they are very real. They are ongoing. They are active and, I think, gaining strength, and we appreciate that. As I said in my remarks, we would much prefer to get a deal," he told reporters. The US has repeatedly stated that it is holding talks with the Iranians, which Tehran has consistently denied. The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with the conflict now into its fifth week. Iran has reported over 1,900 deaths since the start of the war. The US has confirmed at least 13 military service personnel killed with around two dozen fatalities admitted by the Israeli side."
