"War Secretary Pete Hegseth told Washington's so-called allies 'you might want to start learning how to fight for yourselves' as the split with Western allies continued to widen on Monday. "President Trump's led the entire time, but it's not just us. So ultimately, I think other countries should pay attention when the president speaks. He's proven that when he speaks, he means something. And he's pointing out, you know, you might want to start learning how to fight for yourself. It's something some of us have been saying for quite some time. You can't just have flags. You have to have formations. You can't just have a few ships. You have enough to affect change," he said. He also said he couldn't understand reports about Trump's domestic support 'base' not being with him on potential 'boots on the ground'. "I don't understand why the base, which they have already, they understand, wouldn't have faith in his ability to execute on this," he said. "Look at his track record of pursuing peace through strength, America First outcomes. And what he's simply saying, and it's exactly true, and I've said from this podium too, we're not going to foreclose any option. You can't fight and win a war if you tell your adversary what you are willing to do or what you are not willing to do, to include boots on the ground." Earlier Trump wrote: "All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT. You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!" Tehran has said the Strait "is open to friends and non-hostile countries, but closed to enemies and those who collaborate with them". The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with the conflict now into its fifth week. Iran has reported over 1,900 deaths since the start of the war. The US has confirmed at least 13 military service personnel killed with around two dozen fatalities admitted by the Israeli side."
