"The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Iran, Israel and the US to refrain from targeting civilian infrastructure, stressing the need for international backing for mediation efforts led by Pakistan. Speaking at a press conference in Doha on Tuesday, spokesperson Majid Al-Ansari warned that if unchecked the situation would escalate further, leading to ‘doomsday scenarios’. He highlighted the risks of attacks on civilian infrastructure, including energy and nuclear facilities in particular, as well as desalination plants. Al-Ansari noted that Qatar has previously engaged in mediation efforts to safeguard energy infrastructure during the Russia-Ukraine war. “We are calling on all parties to refrain from attacks on civilian infrastructure. The peoples of the region are not part of this war,” he added. The spokesperson reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Pakistan’s mediation, saying the priority is not launching new initiatives but building international momentum behind the existing efforts. This comes amid escalating tensions across the Middle East following the US-Israeli military operation launched on February 28, aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and US assets across the region, with reports of explosions in several Gulf countries. The situation further intensified after Iranian authorities confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei named as his successor. The conflict has since expanded beyond Iran, with Hezbollah in Lebanon entering the confrontation, describing its involvement as retaliation for the killing of Iran’s leader. "
