This comes amid an acute energy crisis in Cuba caused by a blockade imposed by the United States. Footage captured on Tuesday shows the Russian tanker at the port of Matanzas, where it will deliver 730,000 barrels of crude to supply the Caribbean island. Residents appreciated Russia's gesture, noting that Cuba has no oil. "This is good, it's very important because now there is oil so they [Energy plants] can move. Because here there was no oil, nothing was coming in. Thank God it’s finally arriving," said Daniel, a Cuban citizen. Others criticised US President Donald Trump for restrictions preventing other countries from sending oil or humanitarian aid to Cuba while he maintains a war with Iran. "Let's see if Donald Trump eases up a little and lets more come in from Russia and other countries, Mexico, other places. They are not as bad as him, he has already caused enough problems with the war, and is destroying the whole world," he said. He also described the US president as "a demented, psychiatric, crazy president" who seeks to control Cuba beyond the energy blockade. "I really dislike him. Bad, bad, he is the crazy president who thinks he is the king of the world," he added. Cuba Oil Union (CUPET) detailed on its social networks that the 100,000 metric tonnes of crude will be processed in its refinery to help improve the energy situation on the Caribbean island."
