LAHORE: The Punjab government has initiated development work in 302 villages under the ‘Maryam Nawaz Misali Gaon Programme’. This was announced during a meeting chaired by Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique, with Special Secretary (Development) Asia Gul in attendance, while the Secretary for Coordination of the Chief Minister’s Office participated via video link. During the meeting, Khurram Pervez, Chief Executive Officer of the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC), provided an update on the progress of the development work. The Minister noted that the Chief Minister had initially approved municipal schemes for 485 villages, and to date, the District Development Committees have approved schemes for 464 villages. “The PRMSC has awarded contracts for work in 357 villages, and contractors have assumed responsibilities in 302 villages,” he stated. The Minister directed the creation of a dashboard to monitor the Model Village Programme. He emphasised the restoration of traditional village ponds and the installation of water treatment plants to promote healthy aquaculture in these water bodies.
