Consequences come calling for Cooper in Season 2 of ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’

LOS ANGELES: American actor Jon Hamm said Season 2 of the Apple TV+ dark comedy “Your Friends and Neighbors” will focus on the consequences facing his character after ‌beginning a life of crime in Season 1. “Season 2 is very much about dealing with the fallout of all of those decisions,” Hamm told Reuters . The series, created by American author Jonathan Tropper, follows Andrew Cooper, a former financier who turns to stealing from his wealthy neighbors after losing his job. Tropper wrote the role with Hamm in mind. In the new season, Cooper struggles to balance his criminal life with his family relationships, particularly with his ex‑wife Mel, played by Amanda Peet. Hamm said Cooper continues trying to live “with a foot in both worlds,” but finds the complications only deepen. Those tensions are heightened by the arrival of a new neighbor, Owen Ashe, played ‌by “X-Men” actor James Marsden, whose presence disrupts the town’s social order. “He comes in as the chaos agent of Season 2,” Marsden said, adding that Owen’s wealth and swagger quickly unsettle the community. Olivia Munn, who plays Samantha Levitt, described Owen as a “Count of Monte Cristo‑like figure” who upends an established hierarchy. “Everyone’s in their place, and then this guy comes in with enormous wealth and flaunts it,” she said. Despite the new twists, Hamm said the show remains a commentary on modern consumerism. “It’s an examination of this late‑stage capitalist, hyper‑consumerist culture,” he said, pointing to the endless desire for more possessions. Season 2 of “Your Friends and Neighbors” premieres Friday on Apple TV+.
