"Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian joined crowds in Tehran on Tuesday evening to mark Islamic Republic Day, as the country remains under pressure from ongoing US-Israeli strikes. Footage shows Pezeshkian moving through large crowds, shaking hands with citizens and posing for photos. "Trump stands behind bulletproof glass, but our president walks into the crowd. This means authority, a participant said "May God protect anyone who serves the people and this system,” added a second. Iranians observe Republic Day to commemorate the 1979 referendum that established the Islamic Republic following the revolution and the end of the monarchy. The day, marked on the 12th of Farvardin in the Iranian calendar, is typically observed with official ceremonies, public gatherings, speeches and, in some cases, military displays. The celebrations come amid a dramatic escalation that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran during diplomatic efforts over Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and US military sites across the region, with explosions reported in several Gulf countries. Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was succeeded by his son Mojtaba Khamenei. The conflict has since expanded to Lebanon, where Hezbollah has launched attacks on Israel, while shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz have been disrupted, pushing oil prices above $100 per barrel and adding pressure to global markets."
