Kevin Gausman is off to an electric start to the 2026 MLB season. After recording 11 strikeouts and zero walks in the Toronto Blue Jays’ home opener against the Athletics, he returned to the mound Wednesday afternoon against the Colorado Rockies. Gausman struck out 10 batters and again issued no walks, becoming the first Major League pitcher since 1900 to record 10 or more strikeouts in each of his first two starts of a season without allowing a walk. That’s right: no Nolan Ryan, no Sandy Koufax, just Kevin Gausman. Although it’s still early in the season, Gausman leads all MLB pitchers with 21 strikeouts. According to Yahoo Sports projections, he is on pace to record 336 strikeouts this season, which would nearly double his 2025 total of 189. Despite six strong innings from the Blue Jays ace, Toronto blew a 1-0 lead in the eighth inning and went on to fall 2-1 in extra innings. Gausman will face a tougher test in his next outing, scheduled for Tuesday at home in a World Series rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
