'There have been 45 direct attacks!' - Lebanon's Information Minister reveals 'shocking' impact of Israeli strikes on healthcare network

"Lebanon’s Information Minister Paul Morcos said on Thursday that Israeli strikes had inflicted a 'shocking' toll on the country’s healthcare system, detailing dozens of attacks on medical facilities and personnel since the start of the war. “There have been 45 direct attacks on healthcare facilities and ambulance services, with ten hospitals having now been attacked,” he said. “Five hospitals have been forcibly closed, and 20 emergency centres have been attacked. Sixty-seven ambulances and fire trucks have been damaged. 53 health sector personnel were martyred, and 47 others were injured,” he added. Morcos also highlighted the need to strengthen protections for journalists, referencing a report presented during a cabinet meeting examining legal measures to safeguard media workers. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the overall death toll from Israeli strikes has reached 1,308, with 3,935 others injured. Earlier, on March 2, the Lebanese government announced a ban on all security and military activities of Hezbollah, declaring them illegal and calling for the group to disarm and limit its role to political activity. The escalation follows joint US–Israeli military operations against Iran launched on February 28, during diplomatic efforts over Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes. Iran subsequently announced retaliatory strikes on Israeli and US assets across the region. Hezbollah entered the war, attacking Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who died on the first day of strikes and was later succeeded by his son Mojtaba Khamenei."
