Child Dies in Sharjah After Drowning in Pool of Rainwater

A child died in Sharjah on Wednesday, April 1, after drowning in a pool of rainwater, the emirate’s police revealed in a statement.  The authority received a report of the incident at 7.05pm after which specialised teams were dispatched to the scene along with rescue and ambulances, and the child was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, he could not be saved and passed away.  Sharjah police has warned against swimming in places where rainwater gathers and called for increased control over children. The authority warned parents against the danger of approaching or swimming in rainwater gathering places, which could pose serious risks to their safety. It emphasised the need to follow the whereabouts of their children, indicating that rainwater accumulations are characterised by uneven depth, difficulty in assessing danger, along with the possibility of sudden slides and unstable mud formations, which increases the risk of drowning accidents or serious injuries. The police expressed its deepest condolences and sympathies to the child’s family, stressing the importance of promoting family surveillance, educating children about the dangers of swimming in undesignated locations, adhering to preventive guidelines, which contribute to protecting them from potential risks.
