The 55-year-old LIV Golf star announced on X that he will miss next week’s tournament, citing an ongoing health issue. “I will not play in the masters tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter,” he wrote. The sudden withdrawal comes just days before the field of more than 90 players is set to descend on Augusta National Golf Club. It’s not the first time Mickelson has stepped away this year. He also missed four LIV Golf competitions this season for a similar reason before briefly returning to compete at an event in South Africa in March. Mickelson—once a dominant force on the PGA Tour before his jump to the LIV circuit—struck a reflective tone in his announcement. “I have great respect for Augusta National Golf Club,” he wrote. “It is definitely the most special week of the year.” He added that he would be watching from afar, as fans quickly flooded his post with messages of support.
