'Completely destroyed' - Guayaquil residents blame gangs for damage to homes, properties as wave of violence rocks Ecuador

"Residents of Guayaquil blamed gangs for the latest wave of violence reported on Thursday, leaving homes and properties damaged and at least two people injured. Footage shows the aftermath of an initial explosive attack where a Community Police Unit (UPC) was damaged. Police officers can also be seen assessing the Stella Maris Park as residents complained of dog remains. A homeowner of one of the damaged houses caught in the second explosion blamed members of criminal gangs for the attack. "A piece of the door blew badly all the way over here. Look how this part is affected. The desk is affected; that part of the door got horribly crumpled," he said. One of his neighbours called on the government to provide aid for the affected homeowner. "As you can see, the house is completely destroyed. He has lost tools; he has lost countless things," he explained. "Thank God he is alive, which is the most important thing," he added. According to local media, the attacks were allegedly carried out by the criminal group 'Los Lobos', although authorities have not confirmed those responsible. This follows an armed attack in the Cristo del Consuelo neighbourhood of southwest Guayaquil, which resulted in the deaths of three men."
