Q2FY26 economy grows 3.89pc

ISLAMABAD: The National Accounts Committee (NAC) on Thursday approved the provisional GDP estimates for the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26, saying that Pakistan’s economy expanded by 3.89 percent during the second quarter. The meeting was held here under the chairmanship of the Federal Secretary, Ministry of Planning and Development. The meeting, which was attended by relevant officials, including senior officials of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), updated second-quarter figures for the financial year 2025-26. The 116th NAC meeting said that the trend is led by the industry with 7.40 percent growth and supported by positive contributions from agriculture, 1.76 percent, and services, 3.69 percent. The economy grew by 3.89 percent during FY2025-26’s Q2.The NCA further said that despite improvements in services from 2.35percent to 2.44percent, the overall updated growth for FY 2025-26Q1 is 3.63percent, down from 3.71percent approved in the previous NAC meeting, due to downward revisions in agriculture from 2.89percent to 2.72percent and industry from 9.38percent to 8.86percent. The updated annual GDP growth rates for FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25 are 2.62 percent and 3.06 percent, respectively, compared to the previously estimated 2.63 percent and 3.09percent.The committee approved the provisional growth rate for FY2025-26Q2, the revised growth rate for FY 2025-26Q1, and the updated GDP growth rates for FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25.
