Lee, Macron to hold summit as Seoul eyes upgrade in bilateral ties

President Lee Jae Myung will hold a summit with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, Friday, as Seoul moves to deepen cooperation with Paris and upgrade bilateral ties. Macron arrived in Korea the previous day on a state visit, the first by a French leader in 11 years. The summit begins with an official welcome, to be followed by talks and a signing ceremony for agreements and memorandums of understanding. The two sides are expected to discuss expanding cooperation in trade and investment, as well as in sectors such as artificial intelligence, nuclear energy and space. Energy cooperation is also likely to be discussed, as global supply concerns have grown amid prolonged instability in the Middle East.
