Person rushed to hospital after reports of marine mammal bite at Dunedin beach

A person has been rushed to hospital after an incident at a Dunedin beach this afternoon. St John said while it hasn’t been confirmed, there are reports the person was bitten by a seal or sea lion while in the water. St John confirmed it sent one ambulance and a rapid response unit to Brighton Beach at 1.23pm. One person was taken to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition. Fire and Emergency New Zealand confirmed it assisted in the response. Police referred all comment to St John.
