Punjab to launch first satellite surveillance system

LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique announced that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the creation of Pakistan’s first satellite surveillance system. He shared this information while chairing a meeting of the Punjab Special Spatial Planning Authority (PSPA) on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Development Asia Gul and Additional Secretary Quratul Ain, while PSPA Director General Abdullah Nayyar provided a briefing. Rafique stated that the training of the PSPA’s artificial intelligence (AI) system is currently underway, noting that over time, the AI will enhance its monitoring standards automatically. He also mentioned that master planning for 37 districts and 128 tehsils in Punjab has been completed, along with the completion of land use plans and zoning work across the province. He emphasised that the Planning Support System (PSS) is linked to the e-Biz and e-Construction portals, allowing the application process for the development of housing schemes to be completed online through e-Biz. “New construction activities will be detected monthly through the PSPA system which has developed a comprehensive digital ecosystem. Efforts are also ongoing to classify satellite imagery,” he added. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
