Phivolcs: Mayon Volcano rockfall triggers overnight bushfire

MANILA, Philippines — A rockfall event at the southern lower slopes of Mayon Volcano in the province of Albay ignited a bushfire on the night of Maundy Thursday before it ceased this morning, authorities reported Friday. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs)’s advisory, the bushfire “burned all night and had ceased by [Friday] morning.”  The event occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on April 2, as effusive eruptions at the Mayon Volcano continued for the 87th consecutive day.
