Toronto restaurant serves mozzarella sticks so spicy you have to sign a waiver

A Toronto fried chicken joint churns out mozzarella sticks so spicy that diners have to sign a waiver before sinking their teeth in, but are they really worth it? The human species has some sort of sick fixation with pushing ourselves to the absolute limit of how much spice our taste buds can possibly handle, and I'm not too proud to admit that I'm one such person, but as much as I live for firetruck red chilli chicken and tongue-numbing salsa roja, even I have limits. Signing a liability waiver that abdicates responsibility for any spice-related health and safety issues might just be mine, but it's not enough to deter scores of thrill-seeking spice-enthusiasts from trying their luck at Dave's Hot Chicken . The L.A.-founded chain has exploded worldwide since it opened in 2017, renowned for its spectrum of spice options, ranging from mild to Reaper, so named for the spice blend's use of the infamous Carolina Reaper pepper. It's this final boss of flavour, known as the second-hottest pepper in the world, that diners receive a waiver with their order, but is it really that spicy? Or is the waiver a carefully curated placebo tactic to make diners think they're approaching the upper limits of human spice tolerance? Dished Toronto decided to investigate. @dishedtoronto This spot makes you sign a waiver before eating ? Dave’s Hot Chicken is serving up the SPICIEST mozzarella sticks you’ve ever had and it’s still worth it ️? @daveshotchicken - 2066 Yonge St Would you be able to handle this one? ⬇️ ️ @madisonschuli @emm.ohara @luiz.strina ♬ original sound - Dished Toronto Upon ordering a flight of the chain's new mozzarella sticks, Dished Toronto correspondents Emily and Madison were promptly handed a waiver for the Reaper-level sticks. "Is it that spicy?" Madison asks. "It is," the restaurant employee responds. Upon receiving the order, Emily and Madison were handed the Reaper stick in a separate box, its spice level so severe that cross-contamination is, seemingly, a real concern. As the two try each increasing spice level, the heat begins to kick in around the Hot, with Extra Hot and Reaper yet to be consumed. Upon taking the small bites of Reaper mozzarella stick that they could manage, Emily and Madison confirmed that, yes, it really is that spicy. "I'm never doing that again," Madison concludes. On the other hand, despite all the pain, both Madison and Emily agree that the mozzarella sticks at Dave's Hot Chicken are most definitely "worth the hype."
