"The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released footage that appears to show the downing of an 'advanced enemy fighter jet' near Qeshm Island after Iran's air defence systems intercepted it. The date and exact location of the footage could not be independently verified. In a statement, the IRGC said the aircraft was struck south of Qeshm Island by the Navy's advanced air defence system, operating within the country's integrated defence network. It added that the jet crashed between Hengam Island and Qeshm Island before sinking. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) denied the claim in a post on X, stating that none of its aircraft had been downed. "All US fighter aircraft are accounted for. Iran's IRGC has made the same false claim at least half a dozen times," the statement said. The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with the conflict now into its fifth week. Iran has reported over 1,900 deaths since the start of the war. The US has confirmed at least 13 military service personnel killed with around two dozen fatalities admitted by the Israeli side."
