Touring Musician for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band Dies

Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images for AFI Violinist Tzruya “Suki” Lahav, who recorded and toured with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in the 1980s, has died. Her son announced her death from cancer at the age of 74 in a Facebook post. Lahav’s work can be heard at the end of Born to Run ’s closing track, “Jungleland,” and she also sang uncredited on “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” and “Incident on 57th Street” from 1973’s The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle . In addition, she toured with Springsteen from 1974 to 1975, performing in 38 shows beginning with an October 1974 concert at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall and ending with one at D.C.’s DAR Constitution Hall. A memorial post from the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music acknowledged Lahav’s passing and noted that after leaving the E Street Band, she went on to “become a major figure in Israeli music and literature, leaving behind a lasting legacy as both a songwriter and poet.” An obituary published in Israel’s i24News called her one of the country’s “most influential songwriters and poets.” She is survived by her partner and three sons.
