All at sea - US sanctioned tanker with Iranian crude oil appears to shift course to China from initial route to India

"Eswatini-flagged tanker, Ping Shun, carrying around 600,000 barrels of Iranian crude, and on course for Gujarat's Vadinar port, was reported to have changed its destination to Dongying in China's Shandong province after nearing the Indian coast, according to ship tracking data. Footage from Friday shows ships at the Indian port, while the tanker can be seen offshore. The tanker had been expected to reach Gujarat between late Thursday and early Friday, but instead made a sharp turn south and updated its declared destination mid-journey. The diversion came as India appeared set to receive its first shipment of Iranian crude in nearly seven years. Media reports suggested the change could be over payment issues and sanctions, although this was not confirmed. New Delhi halted imports from Tehran in May 2019 after the United States Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control enforced sanctions under Donald Trump's first administration. Last month, the same office issued a temporary 30-day waiver allowing transactions involving Iranian oil already loaded onto vessels as of March 20, valid until April 19. The move was aimed at easing global supply pressures and stabilising prices amid ongoing tensions involving Iran. On March 17, India's second LPG carrier, 'Nanda Devi', arrived safely at Vadinar port in Gujarat, carrying around 47,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas after navigating the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The first ship 'Shivalik' reached Gujarat on Monday. Currently, 22 Indian-flagged vessels with more than 600 seafarers remain in the Gulf."
