Youthful devotion: Camarero finds strength in Jesus’ trials

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Fifteen-year-old Jomz Andrei Gonzales, one of the youngest camareros (caretakers of religious images) here, carefully tended the image of the “Temptation of Jesus” during this year’s Good Friday observance. The image depicts the biblical episode in which Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights in the desert and was tempted by Satan, yet remained faithful to God. Gonzales, an active member of the youth ministry at Holy Infant Parish, became a camarero last year in honor of his late mother.
