"Dhaka is facing a surge in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, with long queues forming as residents rush to secure supplies amid fears of shortages. Footage shows motorists lining up at filling stations while suppliers unload dozens of cylinders to meet rising demand. The price of a 12kg LPG cylinder has risen by 387 taka following a government decision, triggering what residents described as panic buying across the capital. Residents said uncertainty over future supply was driving the rush. “The pressure at the pump is very high due to the increase in the price of LPG," said local resident Abdul Jalil. "Everyone is worried about whether they will get LPG later.” Suppliers also reported falling short of demand. Mohammad Shipon said deliveries were insufficient to meet daily needs. “Our daily demand is about 15 tons of LPG, but we are being supplied with 8–10 tons,” he said. Others pointed to the dramatic rise in prices as fuelling tensions between buyers and sellers. “Gas sales have stopped," said local Zakir Hossain. "How can the gas that I bought for 1,400–1,500 taka now be 2,000?" The situation comes amid an emerging global energy crisis, as ongoing military escalation involving the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other continues to strain supply routes and drive volatility in fuel markets. Import-dependent economies such as Bangladesh remain particularly exposed to these disruptions."
