Seismic events still ongoing in Mayon Volcano; alert level 3 remains

MANILA, Philippines — The Mayon Volcano continues to exhibit seismic activities for the past 24 hours as it remains under Alert Level 3 status, which signifies intensified unrest. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) gave this information on Saturday.  In its 24-hour monitoring, Phivolcs said that Mayon Volcano recorded a total of 52 volcanic earthquakes, including one volcanic tremor which lasted for five minutes; 356 rockfall events; and one pyroclastic density current (PDC) signal.  Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol earlier explained that PDCs are dangerous as these are an avalanche of a mixture of ashes, rocks and gases.
